Fix “You can’t open Beeper Desktop.app because it is damaged or incomplete” on macOS
Applies to: macOS, Beeper Desktop for macOS
Common side effect: the app in Applications shows 0 bytes
What is happening
macOS thinks the Beeper app is unsafe or incomplete. This usually comes from:
- A managed device or security tool blocking or altering the download.
- A browser download that adds strict quarantine attributes.
- An incomplete copy into Applications.
Quick fix
Remove old copies
Delete Beeper or Text from Applications and empty the Trash.
Re-download from the official Beeper site
If the file looked “damaged” after downloading in Chrome, try Safari or another browser. Confirm the app is hundreds of MB, not 0 bytes.
Move to Applications and allow it
1. Drag the app into Applications.
2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, look for the message about Beeper, choose Open Anyway, then Right-click → Open the app once.
Advanced option (Terminal users only):
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Beeper\ Desktop.app
Then Right-click → Open.

If your Mac is managed by IT
Ask your admin to allow the official Beeper macOS installer and domains. If possible, download on a network that does not apply content filtering.
