Beeper Desktop API: Build With Your Messages Locally
Local API for Beeper Desktop that lets you search chats, send messages, and control your messaging client across WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, and more. SDKs available in JavaScript, Python, Go, and PHP.
The Beeper Desktop API is a local API that lets you programmatically interact with Beeper Desktop. You can search chats, send messages, and control your desktop client across all your connected messaging platforms—WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Google Messages, Voice, Chat, Messenger, Signal, LinkedIn, X, Discord, Slack, and more.
We provide SDKs in JavaScript, Python, Go, and PHP to help you build integrations quickly. Whether you're building a custom app, automating workflows, or creating a new client experience, the Desktop API gives you direct access to your messaging data and actions.
How It Works
Beeper runs entirely on your local machine. When you connect your messaging accounts, the API becomes available to your applications. Since everything runs locally, your data stays on your device—no cloud intermediaries.
Getting Started
The fastest way to start building is to pick an SDK and begin integrating. Visit the official documentation to explore the available SDKs and see code examples for your language of choice: https://developers.beeper.com/desktop-api/
If you're looking to integrate Beeper with AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT, check out the built-in MCP server documentation instead.
What You Can Do
With the Desktop API, you can search existing chats, fetch message history, send messages, and draft integrations directly into your applications. Actions like searching and fetching existing data don't have usage limitations, so you can build without worrying about hitting rate limits for read operations.
Important Limitations
Keep these constraints in mind when building:
- The API runs inside Beeper Desktop and requires it to be running and accessible on your device. By default, it cannot be accessed from other machines on your network.
- Message history is limited to what's been indexed. When you first add an account, only recent messages are available. For best results, use on-device connections rather than cloud-connected accounts.
- iMessage is supported on macOS only.
- For sending messages, use personal accounts only. Sending too many messages might result in account suspension by the underlying networks. Read operations like searching and fetching are not subject to these restrictions.
What Others Have Built
Developers have created several interesting projects using the Desktop API:
- A macOS messaging analytics app that visualizes conversations across platforms
- A CLI tool for unified terminal access to all your messaging accounts
- A chat archiver for long-term message storage
- Web interfaces and cross-platform tools for interacting with your messages
- Integrations with productivity tools and command-line environments
