WhatsApp now lets you link your account to multiple devices using your primary phone, allowing up to four additional devices can stay connected at the same time. Beeper connects to your WhatsApp account by linking as one of these devices.

⚠️ Important: To keep Beeper connected, you must open WhatsApp on your primary phone at least once every 12–14 days. If not, all linked devices (including Beeper) will become disconnected. For more information, see WhatsApp’s official FAQ on multi-device support.


Connecting WhatsApp

WhatsApp allows you to connect using 2 ways: QR code or through your phone number. Each Beeper app connects using one of these methods. Here's how to do it: 

Beeper Desktop (QR code method)

  1. Open the Beeper app on your computer and click the gear icon on the bottom left of your screen 
  2. Click Accounts > Add an Account 
  3. Find WhatsApp from the list and select ‘Connect'
  4. Wait for the QR code to load
  5. Once the QR code appears, open your WhatsApp app on your mobile device and go to Settings > Linked devices > Link a device and scan the code. 

Beeper Android (phone number method)

  1. Open your Beeper Android app and go to Settings > Chat Accounts 
  2. Click ‘+ Add an Account’
  3. Find WhatsApp from the list and select ‘Connect’ > Continue
  4. Enter the phone number related to your WhatsApp account → Continue
  5. You will be shown a unique 8-character code similar to the one in the screenshot below
  6. Copy that code and open your WhatsApp app
  7. Go to the WhatsApp app and from the main menu → 3 dots at the top right → Linked devices. → Link a device → Link with phone number instead 
  8. Paste the code and await confirmation that your device is successfully connected

 

Beeper iOS (phone number method)

  1. Open your Beeper iOS app and go to Settings > Accounts 
  2. Click ‘Add an Account’
  3. Find WhatsApp from the list and select ‘Connect’ > Continue
  4. Enter the phone number related to your WhatsApp account → Continue
  5. You will be shown a unique 8-character code similar to the one in the screenshot below
  6. Copy that code and open your WhatsApp app
  7. Go to Settings → Linked Devices → Link a device → Link with phone number instead
  8. Paste the code and await confirmation that your device is successfully connected

💡Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Are there WhatsApp features that are unsupported in Beeper? 
    Here's what we don't support: Polls, status updates, view once media, editing media captions (edits in WhatsApp won't sync to Beeper), importing WhatsApp stickers, outgoing calls.
     
  2. My WhatsApp account has become disconnected in Beeper. How can I reconnect?
    To reconnect, simply head back to Settings → Accounts → Find the disconnected account and select ‘Reconnect’. 
     
  3. I can't send a message to one of my WhatsApp chats
    We recommend checking that your WhatsApp account is still properly connected. If it is and you continue to see sending problems, please long press on the failed message and select ‘Report a Problem’ to file a report with our Support Team.
     
  4. I've received an “Unknown message type, please view it on the WhatsApp app” message. What do I do?
    This typically happens when you receive a message type that we do not support in Beeper (for example, image galleries). In those cases, we still make it a point to alert you so you never miss an incoming message. You can view them in the WhatsApp app directly instead.
     
  5. What features does Beeper Support for WhatsApp?

  6. Does Beeper retrieve all of my chat history from WhatsApp?
    No, but Beeper can retrieve 1 year worth of your messages. For more information, visit our Chat History Import page.
     
  7. My contact has updated their name and profile picture on WhatsApp, but it hasn't updated in Beeper
    Profile name changes should immediately update in Beeper, but the behavior for profile pictures may be different depending on when WhatsApp provides us with that data. If it doesn't immediately update, it may take 4 hours after you receive a new incoming message from the chat. 

    If you see any extended delays or are unsure, feel free to submit a report to our team by long pressing on an incoming message on the chat (ideally the one sent after the profile picture was changed, but any will do) and select ‘Report a Problem’. 
     
  8. Can I turn off read receipts for WhatsApp?
    You can either do this from within WhatsApp itself, or use our Incognito Mode feature that allows you to open chats without marking them as read. This feature is available in Beeper Plus or Beeper Plus Plus.
