    Viber - Getting Started Guide

How to connect Viber to Beeper

TL;DR: Connect Viber by scanning a QR code with the Viber app on your phone, and your Viber chats will appear alongside everything else in Beeper.

    Overview

Once Viber is connected, your Viber conversations arrive in Beeper like any other chat. You can send and receive messages, share media, react, use mentions, and take part in groups, communities and channels.

Your phone stays part of the setup. Beeper connects to Viber by linking to the account on your phone, in much the same way Viber Desktop does.

    Before you start

You will need the Viber app installed and signed in on your phone, because connecting Viber to Beeper uses a QR code that you scan from the Viber app.

You can connect Viber either as an on-device connection or through Beeper Cloud. If you would like to understand what that choice changes, our guide on Beeper on device vs Beeper Cloud walks through what goes to Beeper's servers in each case.

    How to connect Viber

    Beeper desktop:Tab Title

    1. Open your Beeper app and go to Settings > Accounts > Add an Account > Viber
    2. A QR code should appear. Keep this window open.
    3. On your phone, open Viber and go to its QR scanner
      1. Viber on Android: Open Viber and click ‘••• More’ on the bottom left, then click on the QR code icon on the top right
      2. Viber on iOS: Open Viber and click ‘••• More’ on the bottom left, then go to Settings > Account > Desktop and Tablets, then click on the QR code icon on the top right
    4. Scan the QR code you see in Beeper
    5. Viber will show you a prompt about syncing your chat history. Select Sync.
    6. Wait while your chats sync. Your existing Viber conversations will start appearing in Beeper.

    Beeper iOS or Android

    1. Open your Beeper app and go to Settings > Accounts > Add an Account > Viber
      1. If connecting via Beeper Cloud: It should show you a link which you can copy and open on another device so you can scan it from the device you're currently using
      2. If connecting on-device: Enter your phone number and click ‘Continue’. It should show you a link which you can copy and open on another device so you can scan it from the device you're currently using. We'll also email you this link so you can just open the link in your other device rather than copying it.
    2. On your phone, open Viber and go to its QR scanner
      1. Viber on Android: Open Viber and click ‘••• More’ on the bottom left, then click on the QR code icon on the top right
      2. Viber on iOS: Open Viber and click ‘••• More’ on the bottom left, then go to Settings > Account > Desktop and Tablets, then click on the QR code icon on the top right
    3. Scan the QR code you received from Beeper.
    4. Viber will show you a prompt about syncing your chat history. Select Sync.
    5. Wait while your chats sync. Your existing Viber conversations will start appearing in Beeper.

If the QR code does not work

A QR code is only valid for a short time, so if yours has been on screen a while, close the screen and reopen it to generate a fresh one.

If a scan does not complete, you can start again straight away and your existing connections will stay connected. Cancelling a part-finished login will not disturb anything you already have set up.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Do I need the Viber app on my phone to use Viber in Beeper?
Yes. You need the Viber app installed and signed in on your phone. Beeper connects by linking to the account on your phone, much like Viber Desktop does, and you'll scan a QR code from the Viber app to set it up.

    2. Where do I find the QR scanner in Viber?
      • Viber on Android: Tap ••• More on the bottom left, then tap the QR code icon on the top right.
      • Viber on iOS: Tap ••• More on the bottom left, then go to Settings > Account > Desktop and Tablets and tap the QR code icon on the top right.

    3. I'm setting up Beeper on my phone. How do I scan a QR code that's on the same device?
On Beeper iOS or Android, Beeper shows you a link instead. Copy it and open it on another device, then scan the QR code from that device with Viber. If you're connecting on-device, Beeper also emails you the link, so you can just open it on your other device.

    4. Should I connect Viber on-device or through Beeper Cloud?
Both work. The difference is what goes to Beeper's servers. Our guide on Beeper on device vs Beeper Cloud explains each option.

    5. My QR code isn't working. What should I do?
QR codes are only valid for a short time. If yours has been on screen for a while, close the screen and reopen it to get a fresh one.

    6. Will restarting a failed connection affect my other accounts?
No. You can start again right away. Your existing connections stay connected, and cancelling a half-finished login won't disturb anything you've already set up.

    7. What does the "sync your chat history" prompt in Viber mean?
After you scan the QR code, Viber asks whether to sync your chat history. Select Sync. Your existing Viber conversations will then start showing up in Beeper.

    8. Why don't I see all of my older Viber chats or media?
Chat history backfill for Viber is limited. How far back your history goes can vary, and some older media and past activity may not come through when your history syncs.

    9. Can I make or answer Viber calls in Beeper?
No. Calls aren't supported. You'll see a notice while a call is ringing, but you'll need to use the Viber app to make or answer calls.

    10. Can I join a Viber chat from an invitation link in Beeper?
Not yet. Joining a chat by invitation link isn't available.

    11. Do groups, communities and channels work?
Yes. You can take part in groups, communities and channels, within the permissions Viber gives you. You can also create new groups and add or remove people in your private groups. Some channel details don't carry over, such as anonymous vote totals and the way quiz results are shown.

    12. Do disappearing messages and Viber Premium features work?
Disappearing messages are supported. Some Viber Premium features have limits, including view-once media and disappearing messages.

    13. Can I vote in Viber polls from Beeper?
Yes. You can vote in polls.

    14. Can I delete the Viber native app after connecting Beeper?
No. Considering Beeper connects as a linked secondary device, the native app must remain installed.
