Google Messages: What to do if a known RCS contact appears as SMS in Beeper
TL;DR: You have “Automatically resend as text (SMS/MMS)”.
Do you see a known RCS contact appearing as SMS in Beeper?
On the Google Messages native app, under RCS chats settings, you will find the option to Automatically resend as text (SMS/MMS) if your message fails to send as an RCS message.
As the Getting Started Guide advises, please follow these steps to disable “Automatically resend as text (SMS/MMS)”.
- Open the Google Messages native app
- Tap your avatar in the top right corner.
- Select Messages settings → RCS chats
- Disable “Automatically resend as text (SMS/MMS)”.
