Inbox - Tips and Tricks - All Apps Guide
Beeper's Inbox is designed to help you hit that elusive Inbox Zero. This guide will help you navigate all the buttons and tricks you’ll need to learn to master the Beeper Inbox on all of our clients.
The Design: Desktop
Your Desktop Inbox will be separated into three sections:
Favorites
These are the chats that you choose to set up as Favorites. Hence, they are always accessible. You can add to Favorites by right-clicking the chat and choosing Favorite.
You can also set your Favorite chats to always be on top of all chats in the Inbox. You can manage this on Beeper Desktop → Gear icon → Settings → Inbox → Inbox Ordering → Enable “Show Favorite Chats First”.
Inbox
These are the chats that are currently active. A chat is considered active when it matches one of the below criteria.
- Unread messages.
- Sent messages that match your Auto-Archive settings. The timer does not start until you are not viewing the room; you can update it in Settings → Inbox → Auto Archive “X” minutes after reading.
- Draft: You have typed a message but not sent it.
- Pinned: You can pin a chat to Inbox by hovering on a chat then clicking on the pin or by right-clicking the conversation and clicking on “Pin”. Keep in mind that pinned chats can be manually archived.
Archive
In the archive section, you'll find your inactive chats that do not match any of the criteria mentioned in the above two sections.
How to manage your Auto-Archive settings
To manage your Auto-Archive settings, go to Beeper Desktop → Gear icon → Settings → Inbox,
Here you'll find a small context menu where you can tweak some settings for Inbox and Archive.

Sweep
If you use Auto Archive after X minutes or you don't use Auto Archive at all, you will see the Sweep button (broom) often.
The button will appear only when read messages are still in Inbox. Pressing the Sweep button will move your messages to Archive except for Unread messages and Pinned chats.
Draft
Seeing this next to a chat means you have an unsent message pending.
Pin
This enables you to Pin a chat from Archive and makes it always available in your Inbox.
Pinned chats act like any other room in the inbox and will be ordered with the most recent activity at the top.
Archive
Marks an active chat as done and moves it to Archive.
Presented when hovering over an active chat.
Low Priority
Marking a chat as Low Priority will not just move that chat to a Low Priority Space but will stop the chat from making any notification, audible and visual. We recommend this option for unwanted chats, spam. Chats that you don't want to see in your Inbox.

The Design: Android
Currently, Beeper Android app Inbox will behave as a traditional messaging app.
This is the expected behavior:
- New messages: You will receive new messages to the app, and as in traditional messaging apps, the chats will be sorted chronologically, with the most recent chats on top.
- Pinned chats: The (New) Beeper Android app allows you to pin your favorite chats to the Inbox header, which is also visually distinctive.
- Muted chats: Though muted chats will remain chronologically sorted in the Inbox, you won't receive any audible notification for them. You will also see a visual indicator of this state
- Low Priority chats: Though this option is not yet implemented in (New) Beeper Android (to mark a chat as so), you can mark your chats of choosing on Beeper Cloud Desktop as Low Priority, and this will sync to (New) Beeper Android.
- Read/Unread: You can long-press chats in question and select Mark as Read / Mark as Unread to change the read state of a particular chat.
Pin

Mute
Though muted chats will remain chronologically sorted in the Inbox, you won't receive any audible notification for them. You will also see a visual indicator of this state.
To mute a chat, long-press the chat in question and select Mute.
Filters
Though in Beeper Android, you can see all your messages in a single inbox (in contrast to Beeper Cloud Desktop, where you can archive chats), you can filter your chats in Beeper Android by tapping the Search feature on top. Tapping Search will let you go through your Low-Priority chats (previously marked as Low-Priority on Beeper Cloud Desktop), Unread messages, and chats per Network.
Reading Experience
As an option, in Beeper Android, you can choose between a Minimal and Pro reading experience. Here are the differences between both options:
- Minimal: While using Minimal, all your chats will show only the name of the person you're chatting with, the name of the group chat, or a phone number if it's someone not in your contacts yet. No chat network indicator gives you the impression of a single inbox.
- Pro: In contrast to Minimal, Pro shows you the number of unread messages in the chat and, if you choose to, a chat network indicator near the chat avatar.
